YES Network Namibia Career Workshop

On 21 April 2017, YES Network Namibia held its first event of the year;  a career workshop where we had great speakers with different levels of experience sharing their knowledge in an honest manner. Our line-up included two experienced geologists and two younger geologists who would provide a diverse but informative session.

The first presenter, Kombada Mhopjeni spoke on Planning a Career, this requires using every single tool in the box life provides, from first year all the way to after graduation.  Ingrid Stengel gave an illuminating talk on etiquette and how to give a good impression focusing on respecting the people we meet as well as our Science; which more than anything requires us to go the extra mile.

From the younger generation of Moses Angombe and Josephine Itengula each spoke on Cover Letter Writing and Interview Questions respectively. These two topics resonated well with the audience as more and more questions were asked after the presenters were done.

All in all, this workshop was a great start and we look forward to having more real soon. Our gratitude goes out to the speakers who made time and those who contributed in the different forms.

Geoscience Council of Namibia Fund-Raising Seminar

The Geoscience Council of Namibia has pleasure in inviting you to participate in a Fund-Raising Seminar.

Background on the Geoscience Council of Namibia
The idea for the Council was initiated by the Geological Society of Namibia around 1992. The  Society’s Executive Committee members  Roy Miller, Roger Swart, Volker Petzel, Ger Kegge, Gabi Schneider, Ken Hart and Brian Hoal led the extensive consultations with the Society members and other geoscientists.  Finally after several years of lobbying and facilitation by MME the  Geoscience  Professions  Act  (Act  No. 3  of  2012) was promulgated in 2012 and makes provision for the establishment of the Geoscience Council of Namibia. The first Geoscience Council was inaugurated on 10 August 2016 in Windhoek. The Council’s objectives include the promotion of geoscience professions in Namibia by providing a self-regulatory juristic body, and registration for geoscientists with a recognised level of professional competence and adherence to a code of professional conduct.
